Very little. Written down here.
This site, book.sofauxreal.com, and the letters page on sofauxreal.com are run by SoFAUXREAL. In the legal sense, the controller of your data is Doukas Chatzidoukas – Paris Kamarinopoulos O.E., which publishes and sells the book (details under Legal notice). For anything about your data, write to notes@sofauxreal.com.
Your name and email are needed to hold a lot or to answer a letter; without them we cannot do either. Everything else is optional.
Nothing is sold, swapped, or used for advertising.not even the sofa. The Editor does not want to know more than he needs to answer you.
Netlify and Intuit are based in the United States, so your data may be stored there. Both are certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as giving adequate protection. Their policies explain the rest: Netlify, Intuit / Mailchimp.
Letters: until they are answered, and no longer than two years after. Reservations: until the edition is delivered, plus whatever the tax rules require for a sale. Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
This site sets no tracking or advertising cookies, and loads its fonts from itself, not from Google. Saying “yes” to the newsletter sends your email to Mailchimp, and nothing else.
To know whether the page works, it sends our host, Netlify, one short count at each step of a visit: arrived, opened the plastic, reached the receipt, picked a number, reserved. Each count says only which step, where the visit came from (for example Instagram, or an advert), whether it was a phone or a computer, and whether it was a first visit. It carries no name, no email and no cookie, and cannot be used to find out who you are. Basis: our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site works. To remember that you have already opened the plastic, your browser keeps one small note for this site; you can clear it at any time with your browser’s site data.
On this site, your browser also keeps the last word the Editor struck for you and when, so that a later visit can remind you of it. It stays in your browser, is never sent to us, and you can clear it with your browser’s site data.
The Corrector has retired (3 November 2026), pen capped. Its addresses now open The Editor app, which has its own privacy notice and terms: editor.sofauxreal.com/app/privacy/ and /app/terms/. Below, for the record, is how the Corrector worked. The retention periods stated there still apply to what it received before 3 November 2026: texts sent with “Send to the Editor” are kept until chosen and no longer than three months from sending; the Cosy Index word counts and the monthly totals hold nothing that identifies anyone and are kept as an archive; pasted texts and pictures were not stored by us, and Anthropic’s own retention is described below.
The Corrector (book.sofauxreal.com/corrector, also shown inside sofauxreal.com/corrector) is one and the same, wherever you open it: the Editor reads on our server. The text you paste, the screenshot or the photo of a room you add is sent to our host, Netlify, and from there to Anthropic PBC, whose artificial intelligence system (Claude) processes it for us only to write the correction and sends the result straight back. We do not store it. Anthropic keeps it for a limited time, normally no more than 30 days (longer only if it is flagged for misuse), and does not use it to train its models. Anthropic is based in the United States; the transfer is covered by the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. So that the Editor stays available to everyone, we count how many corrections each connection asks for in a day: a one-way code made from your connection’s address, which cannot be turned back into it, deleted after that day. No cookie, no name, no email. Basis: you ask for the correction; the counting is our legitimate interest in keeping the service open to everyone. Leave out faces, names, phone numbers and anything private.
“Send to the Editor”. If you press it, the text you pasted and its correction go to our host, Netlify, and to the Editor’s inbox, so that he can publish a few each week on Instagram and sofauxreal.com, without your name, your address or anything that leads to you. Nothing else is sent, and nothing is sent unless you press it. They are kept until he has chosen, and no longer than three months. Basis: your consent, given by pressing the button; you can ask us to delete yours at any time at notes@sofauxreal.com.
The Cosy Index. Of each correction, we keep only the words the Editor struck, in their dictionary form (“cosy”, “sought-after”), added to a monthly count for the language of the listing: the word and a number. Not the listing, not the correction, not when or from where, and nothing that links a word to you. Names, numbers and anything that is not a plain word are not counted. The counts are published in The Cosy Index and kept as an archive. Basis: our legitimate interest in publishing anonymous statistics about the language of listings.
Links, saved texts, return count. If you paste a link, our server opens that page once, reads its description and sends it to the Editor in the same way as a pasted text; the page is not kept. “Save” keeps the text and its correction only in this browser, on this device: we never receive it, and you remove it with × or by clearing the site’s data. Your device also keeps a single number, how many texts it has had corrected; with each correction only “first”, “second” or “third or more” reaches us, added to a monthly total that cannot be traced to you. Basis: you ask for the correction; the count is our legitimate interest in knowing whether the Corrector is useful.
You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to take it with you, and you can object to its use. Write to notes@sofauxreal.com; the answer comes within a month, usually much sooner. If you are not happy with the answer, you can complain to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, dpa.gr, or to the authority where you live.
