The Dictionary of Interiors.

A Correction.

A satirical dictionary of interior design. Fifty-three words that sell us the idea of the perfect home, each with its own red correction.

Why it exists · in three corrections

Estate agents Us.

Satire about property usually aims at bad listings and the people who write them. This book turns the pen on the rest of us: the curated home, the perfect feed, the interiors magazine, the room that looks wonderful in a photograph and is cold, awkward and expensive to live in. The language of estate agents has become the way we describe our own homes. The book corrects it.

Pretty pictures A red pen.

First you see the correction. Then you read what it means. A pristine page, a word set in a fine serif — Timeless, Effortless, Curated — and across it, in red, in the Editor’s hand, the correction: Expensive. Four hours and a stylist. Bought. The red line becomes part of the image, not just of the word.

Coffee-table book The contradiction.

It meets every specification of the objects it mocks: sewn, with a red spine and red edges, printed on 150 g cream Munken Print paper, with a red ribbon for the page you disagree with. The hundred numbered copies come sealed in cellophane, for your protection. It is meant for exactly the coffee table it is laughing at.

A beautiful object that disapproves of beautiful objects.

Who are you?

hello.

About SoFAUXREAL

An independent editorial platform examining art and interiors, and the language that sells them.

SoFAUXREAL examines the language of art and interiors: the words that sell the perfect home and the perfect piece, the absurdities around them, and the carefully staged realities behind them. It began as an archive of corrected captions and is now an editorial platform with three products. The Dictionary of Interiors. A Correction. is its first major publication.

The Dictionary
The printed, literary, collectible expression. One hundred numbered copies, then a trade edition.
The Word, A–Z
The public, practical glossary: what the estate agent meant, one hundred terms with the Editor’s correction and the question to ask before the viewing. Free, in six languages.
The Editor app
A bespoke editorial instrument, with a voice of its own. Show the Editor a photograph of an interior or a line of property copy. He strikes the claim and writes the correction in red. Not another AI with opinions. For a recognisable piece, an optional VERIFY asks him to look for sources. Every result can be saved as a Story or Post card. Free beta, six languages, no account. At editor.sofauxreal.com.

The book shown

The covers and photographs shown are mock-ups of the finished edition, made before printing. Colour, paper, band and number may vary slightly in print. The spreads show the final text.

What the book is

The Dictionary of Interiors is a satire of the language used to sell the perfect home: in property listings, interiors magazines, captions and conversation. It does not name or depict any real property, agent or person.

Reservations and rights

Reserving a lot is not a purchase. Nothing is paid, and nothing is binding, until the Editor confirms in writing. Rights and trade terms are agreed separately, in writing.
